We at Manheim are constantly touched by how active our customers are with community and charitable giving programs.  We do our best at the local and national levels to support charities that matter to our employees and our customers, and one of those charities is the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Ride for Life.  This year's event, the largest annual charity ride in the U.S., raised more than $978,000 for MDA this year and has raised more than $15 million since 1986.

A group of 38 Harley-Davidson dealers from the Eastern Harley-Davidson Dealers Association in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Delaware and Virginia organized the event, which began and ended in Reading, PA.  More than 1,000 motorcyclists participated in this year's Ride for Life.  Congrats to Schaeffer's Harley-Davidson in Orwigsburg, PA for raising more than $235,000 and to Classic Harley-Davidson in Reading for raising more than $117,498.  Wow!

"I can't think of any group of business owners that's more active in charitable giving than motorcycle and car dealers," said General Manager of Manheim Specialty and Heavy Truck & Equipment Auctions Karen Braddy.  "Manheim is proud to support the MDA Ride for Life and is touched by the generosity of the event organizers and participants."

So who else participated in this ride?  Any interesting stories from the day you'd like to share?  What other upcoming events would you like fellow Manheim Specialty customers to know about?

The entries are in, Manheim Indianapolis hosted the sale featuring the 2008 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide, and we have a winner!  Congratulations to Jimmy Wright, a dealer from Lavonia, GA, who nailed the sale price on the nose - $17,600 - and is our 'Guess the Bid Giveaway' winner.

"I'm not a Harley expert, but I know a little bit," said Wright, who is an active Manheim customer who buys motorcycles, jet skis, boats and other units.  "The Good Lord just blessed me."

Jimmy wins a trip for two to the July 25 NASCAR race in Indianapolis, including race tickets, airfare, hotel and $250 in spending cash.  He'll have a chance to see his favorite driver, Jimmy Johnson, in his quest to win a fifth consecutive NASCAR championship.

Congratulations to Jimmy, and thanks to all who participated in our 'Guess The Bid.  Get The Prize' contest.  Be sure to check out http://www.manheimspecialtyauctions.com'/ periodically for upcoming contest opportunities.  Customers may also register to receive monthly market reports featuring sale prices by sending an email to specialtyauctions@manheim.com.

Thanks to everyone who registered for our "Guess the Bid.  Get the Prize" contest we hosted in conjunction with Dealer Expo.  We met many of you at our booth and enjoyed spending time with you.  Others registered after seeing ads from our partners at Dealernews, who put on yet another fantastic Dealer Expo event.

We'll know the Grand Prize winner who came closest to guessing the winning auction bid for the 2008 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide after our March Indianapolis sale.  We'll announce all our winners here on our blog in mid-March.

With the devastation from the Haiti earthquake, it is great to see a company like Harley-Davidson donating new motorcycles to help in the relief effort.  Kudos to Harley-Davidson for giving back!

Cox Enterprises, the parent company of Manheim, is also committed to community involvement and charitable efforts.  Cox made generous donations to CARE and the American Red Cross to assist with the Haiti relief efforts and offered free air time on its radio stations, TV stations, and cable system for public service announcements that informed the public on how they can contribute to the Haiti relief effort.

So...are you pretty good at guessing motorcycle auction prices? Or are you just interested in winning free stuff like race tickets and Flip cameras?  Then try your hand at Manheim Specialty's "Guess the Bid.  Get the Prize." contest, which we're hosting in conjunction with DealerExpo February 12-15 in Indianapolis.

To enter, just guess the sale price on a 2008 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide with approximately 3,000 miles.  The closest guess will win a trip for two to the "Big Race" in Indianapolis on July 25, and all entries are eligible for one of three Flip cameras and one of 10 Manheim Specialty transportation assistance vouchers.

We'll auction the motorcycle in March, and if you're looking for some help check out Manheim PowerSearch, which lists all vehicles for sale including some 'buy it now' prices on OVE.com, or email us to receive our monthly market report.

Hurry, the contest ends February 15.  Good luck!
