‘Tis Better to Give …
Manheim Specialty believes it is important to give back to the community at all times, especially during the holidays. This year, Manheim Specialty chose a very special charity support: The Drake House.
Founded in 2004, The Drake House is a crisis residential assessment center for homeless women and children in North Fulton County that was created in response to the growing number of homeless mothers in the North Fulton community. Established to provide a powerhouse combination of services to homeless mothers, The Drake House offers immediate residential housing, combined with an empowerment program designed to provide stability for the children and assist the family in working toward housing self sufficiency. Additionally, they offer the following services: family life skills programs, career counseling and a food pantry.
The organization currently supports 40-50 families a year. Their target demographic, single mothers with minor children, is either unemployed or underemployed and unable to afford a stable living environment. The Drake House provides these deserving individuals with a fully-furnished 1 or 2-bedroom apartment on a temporary basis, while helping them find a sufficient level of employment.
Manheim Specialty was glad to contribute more than $2000 in gift cards, canned goods, gently used clothing and thumb drives to this worthy organization, and we look forward to donating to this organization again in the future. If you would like to donate your time and/or money to The Drake House, please visit their website at http://www.thedrakehouse.org/tdh/?page_id=18.
Side note: The Drake House recently opened a thrift boutique called, The Drake Closet, where ladies can shop for great deals while helping a worthy cause - all proceeds go to help fund The Drake House.
